We had a Ron Sherry manufactured carbon fiber which we loved, but I threw it overboard. oops! Perhaps some of our friends on the forum can tell you if he still makes them.
We decided to replace it with an old pole vaulting pole section. The pole was a section made for for small vaulters, rated for 140-150 lbs. If you ask a local track coach you may be able to come up with an old broken section. It is great in most conditions but a bit bendy it tight reaches over 15 kts.
Not exactly what you asked for……

Attention boat racing fans!
Sorry to say, we’re not going to race Thistles yet.
The TCA Executive Committee along with regatta leadership at St. Pete YC, Mission Bay YC, and Florida YC have come to the same conclusion. We have decided not to hold Midwinters West, Midwinters East, or The Orange Peel regattas in 2021. These regattas are cancelled.
The pandemic is just too much. Because of that it would not be appropriate for us to have a gathering and that’s at least half the fun. The constraints would be considerable. Travel to the events, hotels or housing, getting meals away from home, – it is too much to risk. The whole activity poses risks to the would be sailors and to the folks we encounter along the way.
As we all know by now, this is a time to take refuge from the storm so we can sail another day.
We hope you will have a safe holiday and a happy new year. Maybe by April we can get back to Thistle sailing. We’re really going to have a new appreciation for that, won’t we?
Best Wishes to All,
Tom Hubbell, Thistle Class President
