Thistle Mid Winters West
Thistle MidWinters West
Jan. 31 to Feb. 4, 2024
Midwinters West is always a fun event. If you have not joined us in the past, now is the time to get your boat ready and pack your sail bag.
Midwinters West in San Diego offers sand, surf and sun… most of the time. It is a family friendly environment with a lot of activities to attend. You will make new friends and connect with ones you’ve known for awhile.
MWW is an all inclusive event. One price will get you all dinners, entertainment, basic morning fair, beer, after sailing snacks, trophies and fun. T Shirts and box lunches are available for an additional fee.
Housing is usually with local friends but there are many Vrbo’s and AirBnB’s nearby.
Boats are chartered on a first come first served basis. We have a few at the club but we will have one contact point TDB soon.
Races are run by a highly dedicated team and we have a great team of judges. We have a practice day on Wednesday followed by excellent ocean racing Thursday – Saturday. If the weather is poor the racing can be moved to the bay. Sundays are always exciting when you participate in the match racing. Start reading the rules and practice for this event.
Equipment – if sails etc. need to be shipped, they can be shipped directly to MBYC and held for you there until you arrive.
Early arrivals are welcome. You may park your boat at MBYC with permission of the club. All you need to do is let us know you’re coming and a tag will be provided and you’re set to go.
Weather has been very consistent in the last few years. Sunny or partly cloudy. Light winds in the morning with some gusts in the afternoon. Evenings usually require a light jacket. Shorts are always welcome!
MWW is always a fun event and MBYC is a beautiful venue. We are hoping to see as many people out our way this year as possible. Get your bags and boats together. See you February 1 – February 5, 2024.
If you have questions, Please contact Michael Poltorak, 619-368-4717/poltorakmi@cox.net (Not the regatta chairperson) but feel free to contact if you have questions.
