Over $15,000 was raised on Saturday, August 16th, at the 2014 Leukemia Cup Regatta sponsored by the Nockamixon Sail Club in Quakertown PA. Bill Wilson, who is currently being treated for Non-Hodkins Lymphoma, brought his family down from Rochester NY to participate in, and support the event. His youngest son, John, with Bill and his wife Carol as crew, won the regatta in a Thistle, and his eldest son Chris, took third place in a Laser.
Conditions were perfect for the 44 mixed fleet of boats competing in the event (23 racers and 19 cruisers), with a 5 to 10 knot southwest breeze which held up throughout the three races. Second place went to John Deermount from Lake Hopatcong NJ, with crew of JB Barrett and Daria Sullivan. John's team was celebrating the life of Daria's close friend who recently lost his battle with Leukemia. Fourth place went to Joy Yingling sailing Craig Smith's Thistle #740, and 5th place went to Dan Reasoner, also in a Thistle. Every dollar of the entry fees went directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society because the Nockamixon Sail Club covered the regatta expenses out of its general fund. (Photo credit to Wilson Black)
