Lloyd Kitchin, Brian Kitchin and Catia Kitchin win the 2014 Thistle National Championship in dramatic fashion in the final race of the regatta, which was held at Sail Sheboygan from July 28st to August 1st. They had a nice margin going into the final day, over the second place boat of Matt Fisher, Wayne Pignolet and Bryant Walker.  All they needed were two reasonable scores in the final two races to secure a victory. After a short postponemnet on friday morning to allow the southerly breeze to fill in, the 55 competitors headed onto lake Michigan for final two races of the regatta.  Unfortunately, team Kitchin got  a bad start in race 6 and were only able to dig back to 18th for the race.  Since John Baker, Arron Holland and Mary Ellen Brown finished in 6th, and Skip Dieball, Jeff Eiber and Abby Freeman finished in 9th, there was now only a 5 point spread between the top 4 boats (Kitchin, Fisher, Dieball, and Baker).  In the final race,Team Baker took an early lead and held on for a sizable win. Team Kitchin finished in 5th and Team Dieball finished in 9th.  This Gave Lloyd Kitchin and his family (son and daughter in law) the victory over John Baker by a single point.   Skip Dieball finished in Third, Mike Ingham 4th, Scott Griffin in 5th and Matt Fisher in 6th.
