This year the Charleston Yacht Club welcomed sailors from across the Southeast and beyond to excellent sailing conditions, relaxed off the water activities and professional race management.

On Friday, after lunch at the club, Matt Fisher’s, Brad Russell’s, Will Tyner’s and my team headed out for some on the water coaching with Greg Fisher and Paul Abdullah. Greg and Paul shot video and provided commentary while we lined up speed testing. Following the coaching session many competitors came to the North Sails - Charleston for a video debrief.

Saturday competitors launched after the skippers meeting and sailed out to the far circle near Fort Sumter. The sea breeze filled in just prior to the first race and competitors sailed a windward-leeward course twice around in a steady 12-15 knots and flood tide. For the following two races the course was moved closer to Castle Pinckney and the final race of the day was finished upwind allowing competitors to blast reach back to the barn. At the end of the Day 1 Greg Griffin was 3rd, Team Abdullah 2nd and Fisher was 1st.

Sunday morning PRO Chip Till held a brief competitors meeting at 0900 to review the plan for the day and boats took to the water shortly after. Due to an earlier starting time races were held on the inside circle on Sunday to take advantage of the gradient wind. With the windward mark set just off The Battery sailors were challenged to work their way to the windward mark in 8-10 knots and an ebb tide converging from both the Ashley and Cooper Rivers.

Huge thanks to Will Tyner and Chip Till for organizing this event. The fleet was blessed to have such great race committee, jury, safety team(who had a couple capsized customers…) and shore support. The event would not have been possible without our sponsors, so thankyou Patrick Chisum - Gruenloh Law Firm and the Charleston Yacht Club. Also thanks to Charleston Race Week(Charleston Offshore Racing Association) for letting us use their marks. Thanks so much for all the volunteers that helped make this a great event.

Finally all the photos and video you have seen from this event… will there is a good chance that Priscilla Parker or Rick McKee were behind the lense, so thank you for making us all look so good! Hope to see everyone in Charleston soon!!
