1950’s 17 foot wooden THISTLE sailboat # 1068 with trailer
This beautiful wooden Thistle is near the middle of being restored as a day sailer. She has her original #1068 sail in the original sail bag, plus 2 other sails that didn’t belong to her, including sail 2086. Sail 1068 was made by the famous Herbie Sinnhoffer and sail 2086 by Schock & McRibbon. The sails are in good condition and I even have 4 original wooden battens.
All of her parts are being sold with her (see pictures) except for the keel that is missing. These parts include the 25 foot solid spruce mast and rigging, the boom, the jib pole, the original rudder and tiller, cleats etc and ALOT of NEW stainless steel screws. There is also a cover for the boat in near-new condition.
I even have a set of blueprints/plans that will help you with the restoration.
The hull above the water line is in beautiful condition. The underside may need some attention in a few spots. The bottom of the bow has been patched with fiberglass and needs to be finished and painted. The interior of the boat is all original wood and is in great condition.
I have the titles and just registered both the boat and trailer, so you get a whole year free. I paid extra for the fresh water registration and have both stickers in hand. The trailer is a permanent registration. The trailer works well and has bearing buddies. It’s not perfect by any means, but it works.
This would be a great project for someone who wants to finish her or even make her race again. Either way, she’s a looker and you will get plenty of compliments on the water!
Needs to be picked up in Orange County California.
