Tuesday Racing is currently postponed do to very light breeze. (posted 10:45 AM) Monday Today was a long day on the water for everyone. It started with great breeze out of due South at 3-7. The race committee started the first division right on time, with the second division shortly behind. During the first three legs, the breeze was light but definitely sailable. However, on the second beat the breeze completely shut off leaving all of us wondering if we were going to make the time limit. Finally, we heard the three wonderful blasts from the race committee, abandoning the race. The fleet was then towed back to the starting line to wait for breeze to start another race (I think there were some who were hoping that tow was going back to the dock!) A light breeze filled in around 2:30 and was steady enough to start both divisions between 3:00 and 3:30. The second race proved to be almost as light as the first but was finished within the time limit, allowing us to finally have some scores after an almost nine hour day on the water. As of right now there is still a protest pending so results for the day are preliminary. When everything is sorted out and the results are in they will be posted on cedarpointyc. org. We're hoping for a little bit better breeze tomorrow for the two races that need to be sailed before the cut. Sunday Today's practice race was abandoned due to several storm cells and lots of rain in the area. Land activities have already started with a pick up four square game being played on the patio and corn hole games under the tent. The bocce tourney will start at 5:00pm and sailors will be treated to a homemade steak dinner tonight.
Saturday Three races were sailed in both the Women's and Youth National Championships. The first two were windward-leewards, twice around in 4-7 knots of breeze. During the final race, the breeze started to shut off at the windward mark so both fleets were finished at the gates and sent in for the day. 15 boats competed in each event, meaning that Craig Smith is now sporting his purple mohawk. Juniors got to take part in the shaving followed by the women all taking their turns with the purple dye. The makeover was well documented with both photos and video and will be posted to the website soon. After registration is closed tonight the competitors will be split into 4 divisions, which will also be posted on the CPYC website. We're hoping for nicer weather for the first day tomorrow...look for results to be posted each night as soon as we get off the water! |
