Crew Seeking Skipper

I'm an old Highlander (#247) sailor from Cleveland, Ohio, now living in St. Louis, MO. I'm planning to be in the Cleveland/Canton Ohio area during the Sept 8th and 9th weekend (the Harvest Moon Regatta at Atwood). I would like to crew for anybody. Jack Bauer and I use to teach junior sailing at Edgewater Yatch Club (1968-1970). If you know Jack's e-mail address, I would like to contact him about crewing opportunity. Cordially, Scott Smith 193 Stoneleigh Towers, St. Louis, MO 63132, (314)495-2535, Scott5mith@aol.com

I used to crew on Thistles in NJ about 10 years ago, generally in the middle position. I have sailed a variety of boats since then, from Melges 24 to J 105 to Vanguard 15. I wanted to get back into some Thistle sailing on the West coast. Lake. Mike S, straum_rpi@yahoo.com or 415-205-7155. PCCs or other West Coast Events

Looking to crew for any "non-screaming" skippers. I can handle both positions, but my 6'-1", 240# (& shrinking) frame does not make a boat go very fast when I'm in the front. Experience includes skippering my thistle (Fat Tuna - 2321) and as crew on 1D35, J105, Melges 24, and various PHRF boats. Willing to travel anywhere I can get to on an overnight drive after work on Fridays (+ or - 8 hours from Cleveland, OH). Also can bring pieces, parts, & tools along for spares. Thanks. I have raced small boats with ILYA Jr. sailing for the ast 6 years. I have aged out and am looking to get into bigger regattas. I am comfortable as mid or forward crew, but prefer middle as I am good with spinakker work. I was a mid-crew for the last 2 1/2years. I went to Nationals last year as forward crew. I have raced extensively in Annapolis on a C&C and also in Hampton, VA. I enjoy the larger boats but, I would like to venture in the smaller boats. I would prefer a smaller boat similar to the Thistle which still flies the chute. My preferred position on the larger boats is spinnaker trim. I love the water! --Would love to crew for you! Mid West Events from May-August - Vermilion Oh 614-256-2254, I have sailed a thistle less that ten times, but the times I have sailed have been with John Riddle where we've enjoyed some success. I mostly sail a Laser and have been do many grade 1 and 2 events, sailing with the best copetition in the Laser class, but want to sail against other competition as well. I have crewed an FJ,420, and some experience on thistle. At last years Pymatuning july 4th we were an OCS from i think 4th? but thats racing. I'll be 18 this summer, know alot about sailing in general, a little new in a thistle but am looking for a team for the weekends i am out of the Laser. interested in middle but can do foward as well! thanks john shockey

Active San Diego Fleet looking for crew and potential new boat owners. We have several active boats with experienced skippers looking to increase the local crew pool. Please contact me to find out more about schedule of races, and potential crew spots available. Mike Poltorak poltorakmi@aol.com 619-368-4717

Experienced with sailing but not racing. I am looking for a crew opportunity to develop an understanding of racing techniques and strategy. I am willing to serve in any crew capacity that is relatively local (2-3 hours from Pittsburgh). Lou Penrod lepenrod@stargate.net 412-719-6115

I'm an experienced racer who's curious about the Thistle boat and the local class. Currently I help an owner of a J120 here in Chicago run his program and so many, but not all of my weekends this summer are spoken for. I also do one offshore race a year and this year it is the Marblehead to Halifax race. Looking to finetune my technique in the OD world and I hear nothing but good things about the boat and the people in the class (except for the leg bruises). I'm 5'9 and 158 lbs. Would like to hear from anyone who has a crew position open up for a regatta close to the city. No screamers please, this is my free time and I intend to enjoy it.
